“As a PTA member at Eliot elementary and as the President of the TPS Zarrow School Foundation, I understand what it takes to get things done in our schools. That is what this election is about and it is time to bring a business perspective to the TPS board.

“I care deeply about education and the future of our City and that is why I am running. As a parent with two children in Tulsa Public Schools (including District 5) and a third in pre-school, I am committed to public education and understand that strong public schools are critical to Tulsa’s future success and growth.”

Dear Tulsa District 5 Voters:

With just a few days before the February 5th election, I respectfully ask for your vote for Tulsa Public School Board, District 5.

I have been a candidate for nine weeks and have had wonderful opportunities to meet parents, students, teachers, principals and voters who care deeply about Tulsa’s schools and their future. It's been fun and informative and I hope I have earned your vote along the way. I have taken the time to:

• visit and tour all the great schools in District 5;

• meet with each Principal to hear their challenges first hand; and

• speak at all the District 5 PTA meetings, the Tulsa Teachers Classroom Association’s Delegate and the Tulsa Council of PTAs meetings.

At this point in the campaign, we have finished debating at the candidate forum, exchanged ideas at school PTA meetings, had conversations with parents, answered questions by e-mail and been interviewed at the Tulsa World editorial board. I've listened and tried to answer voters' questions candidly and to the point.

Voters want this election to be about our kids and on making sure we keep the focus on excellence in ALL of our schools. Parents and voters want us to get the job done.

Now it's up to you to elect an effective new School Board member that has children in Tulsa Public Schools (and in District 5) as well as someone who listens, works hard and has business experience combined with practical problem solving skills.

This election is about strong public schools that ensure a strong City of Tulsa. I would appreciate your vote on Tuesday, February 5th. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Brian Hunt

P.S. There's nothing more effective than a short message from a friend, family member or co-worker. If you're willing, please forward a brief email to your friends and neighbors with a link to my webpage, www.Hunt4Schools.com -- to help others learn more about why I'm running and remind them to vote on Tuesday, February 5th.

Brian Hunt is a candidate for Tulsa School Board District 5. Brian, a graduate of Tulsa Edison High School and his wife Katy, a Tulsa Memorial High School graduate, have a child at Eliot Elementary and one at Zarrow International Elementary. “I feel it is my responsibility to provide proven leadership to what I think is the most important board in the City.” The Tulsa native credits his experience in Tulsa schools as the foundation for his success at the University of Oklahoma where he received his bachelors and masters degrees.
Brian hopes to bring a business perspective to the school board utilizing his practical problem solving experience. Brian has 15 years of economic development experience and is a Vice President at CB Richard Ellis/Oklahoma where he has been a commercial real estate broker for more than 7 years.

Prior to joining CBRE/Oklahoma Brian was with the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce where he spent 7 plus years working with Tulsa businesses and understanding the important link between strong schools and a thriving city. Brian has also served on the boards of many leading Tulsa non-profit organizations including past Chairman of Goodwill Industries of Tulsa.

Among the challenges Brian sees for our Tulsa schools are improving teacher pay, ensuring that all students graduate, integrating technology into the classroom, aging infrastructure/buildings and unfunded government mandates.

He believes public education is the key to our future and that it is critical the we treat parents as customers, hold the system accountable and push for best practices as a process, not just an award. “I think it is amazing what our teachers and staff can accomplish with so little. I want to ensure that every teacher has the resources they need so that all children can be successful.
